Icing Recipe

Icing offers the home baker a chance to add incredible visual appeal to baked goods, as well as delicious flavor and texture. The thin glaze can be applied in a variety of ways and gives you the opportunity to be very creative and imaginative. Whether you are dipping cookies into a thin layer of glaze to color or flavor, or adding decorative touches to a newly frosted wedding cake, the ideas behind the icing are probably similar. Icing is usually very thin and often dries quickly, once applied.

Icing can be made several ways. Most recipes require you to be fairly precise in their execution. Adding a tiny bit of extra liquid or sugar will thin or thicken a recipe, but the original measurements are meant to be followed before altering them to achieve a desired consistency. Beautiful colors are possible with products designed to let you create a rainbow of colors. Interesting flavors can be produced with the addition of fresh fruit juice, extracts, and liqueurs.
